I AM BRACHÉR

May 23, 2023

Meet Martin Brachér - a multi-artist and creative thinker through and through. He is known for his paintings, which you can find on the walls of the Bieber couple, but has been cultivating music since childhood. Now he is ready with his first single "Chosen," which marks the beginning of the new art form he is ready to showcase to the world.

How would you present yourself to someone who doesn’t know you?

First and foremost I wouldn’t say much more than my name. I am not the type that loves to talk about myself unless I’m asked. Small talk is not my thing and sometimes I think I would be categorised as an introvert.

With that said, I would introduce myself as a creative soul that magically has managed to remain independent of “the system” since i quit the army in 2020.
My every day life is built around my gut feeling, the need to create, emotions and of course routine and thoughtfulness. I paint, draw, sing and try to transmit my thoughts and my love of life through art.

When did your interest in the arts first begin?

I have always been obsessed with the creative. For as long as I can remember, I have been drawing, acting, building things and used just about anything as a microphone to sing into. My relationship with art and creation goes all the way back to my childhood, but I took up art when I was 19 and this was right before a deployment mission to Mali. I had been training for it during my time in the army, but come deployment I suddenly was doubting my existence and my purpose of being here. Though having those feelings, I also didn’t want to quit and leave my buddies to go ahead without me. That turned the entire lead up to the deployment into thought of doubt, unanswered questions and sleepless nights. That was when I started to paint. To relieve some of the stress and escape the conflict I was having within myself.

Long story short, the mission to Mali got canceled and we weren’t getting deployed this time around anyway, so I saw the opportunity to quit and pursue the passion that had slowly been growing within me.

You are a multi-artist, what made you expand into music?

Music has always been with me. I played the drums for many years, and music has followed me through life with great importance. Music was always playing, whether it was doing homework, working out, going on a walk or while I was painting.

To me, it was always something I knew I had to pursue, but it was just a matter of timing. I had lined up projects in Asia and The States, that were so close to premiering and then everything fell through with the pandemic. A lot of my projects got cancelled or pushed back, and it was a very frustrating time, but also a defining moment for where I am today. It was then I followed my need to express myself through sound. When one door closes, another opens.

What is personal style to you?

To me, personal style is wearing whatever I feel like, whenever I feel like it. I probably switch up my style quite often, probably because I get bored when things stay the same for too long. I usually switch out my wardrobe, but I don’t shy away from getting a new hairstyle as well. I think I switch it up a couple of times a year.
Personal style is 100% relying on your feelings and try not to get influenced by trends or what seems to be in style at that particular moment. I don’t want to fit it, but I do want to fit in. At the end of the day, I’m just doing what I feel like doing and if it fits in, great, and if not, well then let people whisper in the corners.

Personal style is also an expression of whether you are free from the opinion of others. I think a lot of people would dress differently, if they didn’t have to worry about what their neighbour or boss thought of them. We feel our best when we can be our authentic selves and so people would wear whatever they want - and do whatever they want.

What is jewellery to you and how do you use jewellery to build on your personal look?

To me, jewellery is like adding spice to your food. A pasta can be great with just salt, but if you add basil, truffle and grate some cheese on top, it suddenly tastes amazing.

It is kind of the same thing with jewellery. It ties your whole outfit together and gives voice to the details. Emotions are also in the details. There is a vast difference between how I wear jewellery if I’m in a positive mental space compared to when I’m in my more dark and melancholic periods of life. To me, jewellery is a must-have to make my outfit reflect how I feel. As I mentioned regarding personal style - jewellery is part of dressing how you feel. It can help make me vulnerable, but also make me feel strong and invincible.
